Stuart brings a background of more than 20 years of University teaching, mentoring and coaching to Texas Migraine Clinic. He has achieved a Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy®, and has completed certification in the Frame of Mind Coaching™ methodology.
He has been thoroughly trained by Dr. Turner in the Texas Migraine Clinic approach and has found it to be the most effective method he has learned to manage headache presentations. The Actual Cause of Headaches & Migraines: A Major Yet Overlooked Issue
The nerves which generate headaches, migraines, and associated symptoms (the trigeminal nerve system, occipital nerve system, vagus nerve system, etc.) all converge in the neck & brainstem. These nerves branch upwards and downwards in all directions, sometimes generating far-away symptoms in the arm, wrist, or hand such as numbness, tingling, or pain as well as shoulder tension in many patients.
We’ve identified a critical point along the master nerve pathway where all the headache and migraine nerves must converge together and run through. This master pathway of nerves is in the upper neck near the brainstem. Here, along this central convergence of all these headache & migraine nerves, nearly every client we've seen once had disc and/or joint obstructions along this central nerve pathway: blocking, pinching, and/or obstructing these nerves. This generates headache & migraine pain (and often many related symptoms) down the nerves towards the nerve endings where various headache & migraine symptoms can occur (depending on which nerves & nerve systems are affected).
Headaches & migraines, and associated symptoms will then occur as long as one, some, or even all of these nerves along this master nerve pathway cannot run freely. As long as these nerves are being constricted, pinched, or obstructed by structures in the upper neck, the headaches & migraines tend to not ever go away until the actual issues causing them in the upper neck are fixed & cleared.
In fact, nearly each client and person we've seen for these issues in the last 18 years had issues there that went overlooked (commonly) for 20 years or more by such practitioners as neurologists, doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, and many other types of specialists.
However, these issues causing headaches & migraines in the upper neck are very frequently overlooked by neurologists & doctors because the true issue behind headaches & migraines lies below the brainstem – at the convergence point of all the headache & migraine nerves in the upper neck.
Correcting these issues must be done in a very specific order to make them stay gone. Is this approach similar to physical therapy, chiropractic, massage, or acupuncture?
No. The reason why is because:
- Physical Therapy- In our experience, conventional physical therapy approaches do tend to improve quality of life. However, in our experience, physical therapy is not made specifically for migraines, headaches, and neuralgia, and doesn't address these issues at their true source. That's why we've found that the McKenzie method, as well as other physical therapy approaches, tend to only result in temporary relief from these issues, meaning symptoms tend to return quite quickly for sufferers post-physical therapy.
- Chiropractic- Although chiropractic can be helpful short-term, it requires more follow-up sessions, and symptoms can often return very quickly. Those we see often try chiropractic without success before seeing us.
- Massage- With massage therapy, relief tends to only be temporary, until symptoms occur again. That's because superficial muscle relaxation can't resolve the underlying issues behind these issues and nerve irritation in our experience.
- Acupuncture- Although we used to use acupuncture, and used to have an acupuncturist in our clinic in Texas for years, we stopped using this approach, in favor of the System we now use. We found that although acupuncture would temporarily modulate symptoms in a favorable way, it proved to be an ineffective way long-term to reduce symptoms and effectively get rid of symptom issues to achieve lasting relief.

The ophthalmoplegic migraine has been reclassified more as neuralgia (nerve pain). That said, it commonly causes eye pain and/or pressure, as well as eye muscle incoordination as well as associated visual disturbances. Some even have an eyelid (or both eyelids) close for periods of time, which can be quite alarming.
It's certainly worth an evaluation with this meticulous System to determine if we can help you. Our experience has shown that we can often reverse these problems by addressing multiple nerve systems that converge in the brainstem. We do this by naturally calming down the excessive firing of brainstem nerves cascading up from nerves in the neck.
Retinal Migraine

You may be familiar with auras, which many experience before the onset of a migraine. Auras can include all different types of manifestations- not just visual (which is very common). Visual auras routinely include brief bouts of seeing curved or squiggly lines, vision loss, light sensitivity, or blurry vision. Auras that don't fit the visual category can consist of such things as dizziness, numbness, tingling, weakness, confusion, difficulty speaking, and in some instances, even vomiting.
That said, silent migraines generally last only a few minutes, up to an hour- but without an associated headache.
We have found that brainstem hyper-activation from irritated nerves in the neck sets these auras off. Brainstem aura symptoms can be really frightening, as the aura manifestation can appear to be a really serious problem. Rebound Headache

Many headache and migraine sufferers unwittingly sabotage themselves, worsening pain and symptom problems by the way that they take medications. These medications may be over-the-counter pain relievers, or even by prescription. Some react negatively to taking a medication too often- for, say, three or more days per week. Most people do this in a cycle, medicating themselves too much for their physiology to handle. The "rebound" medication pattern is routinely a natural reaction when a pain reliever is wearing off. An increase in pain can prompt more medication use to continue symptom control. Therein lies the problem with rebound headaches.
There can be a "boomerang effect" with this pattern of medication over-use. For instance, in this scenario, you may experience the onset of chronic, daily headaches, which may be even more severe than usual. The realization of this negative effect exposes that the "fix" is worse than the underlying problem itself! Basically, you'd be "rebounding" to a more intense and/or more frequent headache or migraine problem with what the body determines is an excessive frequency in medication use.
The Advanced System is designed to abolish the underlying headache & migraine issues by calming down brainstem activation. Our consistent experience is that irritated nerves in the neck are responsible for underlying brainstem nerve up-regulation (irritability).
Of course, breaking the medication-overuse rebound headaches by tapering and/or stopping the problem medication(s) is warranted. However, it would make sense to address the underlying cause of the nerve irritation problems that produce the headaches and migraines in the first place. Ophthalmoplegic Migraine

The ophthalmoplegic migraine has been reclassified more as neuralgia (nerve pain). That said, it commonly causes eye pain and/or pressure, as well as eye muscle incoordination as well as associated visual disturbances. Some even have an eyelid (or both eyelids) close for periods of time, which can be quite alarming.
It's certainly worth an evaluation with this meticulous System to determine if we can help you. Our experience has shown that we can often reverse these problems by addressing multiple nerve systems that converge in the brainstem. We do this by naturally calming down the excessive firing of brainstem nerves cascading up from nerves in the neck.
Retinal Migraine

You may be familiar with auras, which many experience before the onset of a migraine. Auras can include all different types of manifestations- not just visual (which is very common). Visual auras routinely include brief bouts of seeing curved or squiggly lines, vision loss, light sensitivity, or blurry vision. Auras that don't fit the visual category can consist of such things as dizziness, numbness, tingling, weakness, confusion, difficulty speaking, and in some instances, even vomiting.
That said, silent migraines generally last only a few minutes, up to an hour- but without an associated headache.
We have found that brainstem hyper-activation from irritated nerves in the neck sets these auras off. By reversing the neck nerve irritation, brainstem hyperactivity routinely calms down quickly- and predictably. That has been our approach to rapidly reversing & consistently abolishing this seemingly cryptic problem.
Migraine with Brainstem Aura

Brainstem aura symptoms can be really frightening, as the aura manifestation can appear to be a really serious problem. Symptoms may act very similar to very serious disorders such as epilepsy, stroke, or transient ischemic attack. However, research points to elevated brainstem activity as the epicenter of the problem.
We have found that brainstem hyper-activation from irritated nerves in the neck sets these auras off, with rare exceptions. By reversing the neck nerve irritation, brainstem hyperactivity routinely calms down quickly and predictably. That has been our approach to rapidly reversing and consistently abolishing these seemingly very cryptic problems.
Rebound Headache

Many headache and migraine sufferers unwittingly sabotage themselves, worsening pain and symptom problems by the way that they take medications. These medications may be over-the-counter pain relievers, or even by prescription. Some react negatively to taking a medication too often- for, say, three or more days per week. Most people do this in a cycle, medicating themselves too much for their physiology to handle. The "rebound" medication pattern is routinely a natural reaction when a pain reliever is wearing off. An increase in pain can prompt more medication use to continue symptom control. Therein lies the problem with rebound headaches.
There can be a "boomerang effect" with this pattern of medication over-use. For instance, in this scenario, you may experience the onset of chronic, daily headaches, which may be even more severe than usual. The realization of this negative effect exposes that the "fix" is worse than the underlying problem itself! Basically, you'd be "rebounding" to a more intense and/or more frequent headache or migraine problem with what the body determines is an excessive frequency in medication use.
The Advanced System is designed to abolish the underlying headache & migraine issues by calming down brainstem activation. Our consistent experience is that irritated nerves in the neck are responsible for underlying brainstem nerve up-regulation (irritability).
Of course, breaking the medication-overuse rebound headaches by tapering and/or stopping the problem medication(s) is warranted. However, it would make sense to address the underlying cause of the nerve irritation problems that produce the headaches and migraines in the first place. That's likely the best strategy to successfully accomplish tapering off problematic medications & leaving them behind.

Really, Nothing I've tried so far has truly been effective enough or lasted long enough for me to truly get rid of these issues. How is this different?
The problem we've found with other approaches, treatments, and therapies is that the focus is on "pain management". How can the doctor help if he is not physically there helping me hands-on and doing procedures in Texas?
Our System initially centered on Dr. Jeff Turner personally treating patients and monitoring their symptoms in Texas to advance through our System's stages. However, as our System methodology evolved, it became clear that in-person sessions were not essential.
